RIDE THE LIGHTNING
By Drewid
I bought "Ride the Lightning" a few weeks ago for a few reasons.
I came home. popped it into the CD player, and began to listen to it beginning to end.
After listening through it once I made the conclusion that it was a good album but not quite as good as the others. It was loud, grungy, distorted and just sounded unintelligent and rushed The photos showed an immmature, zit-face, barely-old-enough-to-buy-liquor garage band that happened to get lucky enough to secure a record deal.
That changed. After listening through it a few times and reading the lyrics I now feel that "Lightning" is an example of metal genius. The lyrics are imaginitive representative of world issues. The music is strong and intense or slow and soft - fitting with the lryics to a T. The energy and panicky sound of Trapped Under Ice fit the song's violent mood. The sad and thoughtful sound of Fade to Black is well-represented with it's slow tempo and ballad-type guitar style.
Anyone into hard-rock, metal, eighties rock, or all three needs "Ride the Lightning" in their music collection.
