THE END OF THE
METAL ERA

metWhat many feel is the greatest band in history has called it quits. At 6:04, June 19, 1999, Metallica announced to the world that it is over. There will be no more albums, the Lock&Load tour is over, and each member of the band will go his own way.

met'Jaymz' (James Hetfield) shocked millions with this statement: "We're saddened to announce that Metallica has decided to call it quits. There will not be any more records, and the Lock&Load tour is cancelled from this point on. We'd like to thank the millions of fans who've stuck with us since Kill 'em All, and, paricularly the fans that supported us through Load and Lock&Load.Here's a big 'fu*k Yeah' to all of ya'.

metKirk (Hammet) stepped up the mike and said his goodbyes, thanked the fans and sat down. Obviously distraught, he declined all further questions asked of him.

metJason (Newstead) stood up and proceeded to share the explanation of what inspired the breakup. Conceding his typical hard, devil-may-care, emotionless attitude he emotionally shared the story:

met"A couple weeks ago we were packing up for yet another Lock&Load concert. Kirk played a little joke and shot a spit wad at Jaymz. Jaymz shot back and nailed Kirk in the forehead. Retaliating, Kirk fired, Jaymz ducked, and the wad got me in the back of the neck. I turned around and fired a shot at Kirk. He got hit in the eye and screamed "What the fu*k was that for?!" It proceeded into a three way argument and we all stormed out to the airport with our luggage.' With the everybody pissed at each other, we went through ten concerts, not having fun, not interacting, just playing. The shows sucked, period. Sunday, Jaymz and I got in a fight about whether we should play this, whether we should change that, a bunch of dumb-ass stuff. I said something and he looked at me, and said, 'Shut the fu*k up. I make the calls. You play the sh*t I tell you to.' I got pissed, and slugged Jaymz. We wrestled around the hotel room and Jaymz smacked the h*ll outa' me with Kirk's Ouja guitar. That was just as Kirk walked in. He saw his Ouja all fu*ked up and joined in, and gave Jaymz a bloody nose. Jaymz screamed at the two of us, 'That's it. That's fu*kin' it!!! It's over! I'm gettin' the h*ll out of here! We're all fu*ked, and if we're fu*ked the band's fu*ked! It's over, dammit!' Then he stormed out, slammed and busted the hotel door."

metA few days after the "incident", the band calmed down, sat, and talked. They decided that there were no hard feelings, but that they had gotten to a point where they just couldn't get along like they used to. Mutually, the breakup was decided and that they would end it together two weeks from that day--- today.
